Described by CBC Radio as “an original and provocative show demystifying the world of medicine”, White Coat, Black Art is a peek behind the scenes of Canada’s health care system. Host Dr. Brian Goldman, author of The Night Shift, Real Life in the Heart of the ER, answers questions from listeners about topics such as patient blacklisting and OR wait times. To provide extra insight, he also interviews doctors, nurses and other professionals in the field. Each episode is a wealth of information for medical students, residents and patients.

The Nurse Bullying Show is especially interesting in which guest columnist and medical student, Shara Yurkiewicz, explains how patients offer lessons in communication that medical school does not.

Dr. Atul Gawande, author of The Checklist Manifesto, spoke to a full house last month on the importance of changing the way we think about best practices in medicine. The general and endocrine surgeon, and journalist for The New Yorker, has been critical of the American healthcare system for over a decade. His observations, however, are equally applicable to Canadian and International healthcare concerns. In less than 20 minutes, Dr. Gawande analyzes the potential problems and offers a simple and logical solution: checklists and team work.
